The SRHR Grassroots Project
A collaboration between McMaster’s Faculty of Health Sciences and SRHR Hubs
We’re thrilled to launch the SRHR Grassroots project. This project was developed in collaboration with students and faculty at McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences.
The SRHR grassroots sphere in Canada is an exciting and innovative space with diverse focuses and target beneficiaries, but it is often overlooked by government and other funding agencies. Grassroots organizations face a variety of challenges and barriers, namely; difficulty securing funding sources that speak to their needs and political backlash due to stigma surrounding issues involving sexual health.
The aim of this project is to elucidate barriers to SRHR work experienced by grassroots organizations and individual activists in the Canadian SRHR grassroots realm and better understand the nuances and on-the-ground realities of the people who take on this work.
What does participation entail?
This study will include virtual semi-structured interviews, about 1 hour in length, and a 2-minute demographic survey. We are offering participants the choice of either an individual or group interview at a time that works for them. The interviews will ask questions around the SRHR grassroots experience and the demographic data will be used to develop an understanding of how the SRHR grassroots experience may be related to specific identities and experiences.
Am I eligible to participate?
We are looking to recruit people aged 18 and older that self-identify as partaking in the grassroots SRHR sphere. We are hoping to recruit people in a wide variety of roles to capture to breadth of experiences in the SRHR space. If you’re not sure whether or not your eligible, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
What will this research be used for?
The findings of this study will be used to create a deliverable that will help to inform what can be changed or implemented to overcome existing social, political, and economic barriers to SRHR grassroots work.
